Well, anywhere on the Jubilee Line will give you quick access to Green Park (Buckingham Palace) Westminster (Houses of Parliament & Big Ben), Waterloo (London Eye), London Bridge (HMS Belfast & Tower of London) and Greenwich. That means staying at Swiss Cottage or Canary Wharf.
I'd caution against Canary Wharf as it dies off in the evening and if you're staying at the Marriott property it's a little bit of a walk to the tube station (West India Quay DLR station doesn't have a stop for trains coming from London, only for trains heading into London - it's not a huge deal but probably a detail that would get annoying).
The overground line would likely be of limited use. Bakerloo is nowhere near as good as the Jubilee., but also bear in mind that the tube to tube connections in London whilst not the most convenient aren't as horrific as some places where you walk for miles.
