Actually your real risk is arriving hours late to JFK (either delays or rerouted to LGA from YYZ). I refuse to fly AA on JFK-YYZ any more for this reason. Doesn't BA have several non-stop flights YYZ-LHR that you could have taken? Going via JFK is quite an ordeal for this trip. And yes, AA won't be able to issue BP in YYZ and there seems to be a good chance to lose prime seats ex-JFK to JFK-origin pax. Good luck, but I've had problems 3 flights in a row on YYZ-JFK which is why I no longer fly it on AA (and AA is doing so well these days).
