Seems that your assumption is that Preferred Plus is better than Preferred?
Not really.
Preferred Plus simply means that those seats are reserved for elites (for free) and are not available for sale.
As an elite, you should be able to pick either green or purple for free, right? What's the fuzz?

BTW, within check-in time, the unassigned Preferred Plus seats are converted into Preferred Seats for anyone to buy.
