Logitech Ultrathin iPad keyboard review (and a brief Ion Carbon Cover overiew)
I travel only with my iPad (i.e. no laptop) which I find sufficient to do presentations and also all the usual fun stuff you do with an iPad, i.e. watching movies, playing games and surfing the web.
With this in mind, I sometimes need to type up lengthy emails, documents and what not, and while the on screen keyboard is fine, it gets difficult to use it after a while (I'm sure everybody who tried, knows what I'm talking about).
And so, a lengthy quest for the perfect iPad keyboard has begun. I was one of the first backers of a product called iKeyboard, on Kickstarter - I really had high hopes for the idea, however after many production delays, when I finally received it, I was tremendously disappointed - it's useless and a complete waste of money - I actually type a lot faster using the onscreen keyboard, than that thing.
After a while, I had my sights set on the Logitech Ultrathin, when it was first announced. The 2 things stopping me from getting one, were the price and the fact that you apparently had to remove your iPad from any protective casing to use it. I have an Ion Carbon Cover, which I absolutely love - it's the best case I ever owned, and I tried many, including a Sena leather when I had the original iPad, before getting an iPad 2.
What was very attractive is that super slim profile - I'm a one bagger, and so whatever I carry with me, is whatever I travel with (usually lengthy TATL trips).
Recently I got a coupon from Staples with a considerable discount, so I thought what the hell - let's try it - if I don't like it, Staples has a very generous return policy.
A couple of days later, my keyboard has arrived. It is SUPER slim and SUPER lightweight.
The greatest surprise came, when I've realized, that my iPad perfectly fits in the holding groove on the keyboard, WITHOUT removing it from the Ion case!
What more, is that the keyboard fits perfectly over the Ion screen cover (when not in use), and it's magnetic latch snaps onto the spine of the Ion case. In other words, it is stored as intended, but I still have my case on.
Since the keyboard is very slim, it barely adds any bulk onto the iPad, and the combo still fits perfectly into a small shoulder bag I have for the iPad and documents.
As for using it, the keyboard offers a typical Logitech experience, with nicely spaced and raised keys, good feedback and an overall pleasant usage experience.
In other words - must buy, if you type a lot and don't want to carry a laptop!
