I am happy to pay for seat selection but I don't want to confirm the change with Qantas (i.e. accept their offer of flight change) unless I am sure we are in J seated together on BA.
I have looked at Seatguru to familiarise with BA 747-400 and I see there are upper and lower decks.
I am not annoyed other than this is a very long journey - 13.5 hours and I have a back and hip problem and was booked on lie flat with A380.
I also want to know my husband is with me so he can assist.
I don't want a refund as we were lucky to get the FF seats on the QF A380 as they only release two in J on each flight.
I just wondered if there is any way to know availability prior to giving Qantas an answer. Should I ring BA and ask - they may be annoyed because they would want us to book before advising and we arent members of their program
One factor to take into account on seat selection is the arrangement of the CW seats. Almost all of the window and center pair seats require the window seat occupant to step / climb over the outstretched legs on a footstool of a complete stranger. The only seats on a 747 where a couple can sit side by side without the need to do this are reserved as bassinet seats and can only be reserved by others at T-24. In the facing pairs there is always an aisle seat which has easy aisle access, but there are only a few where the window passenger can get out without the over the legs manoeuvre.

The side by side seats are 14 E&F and 20 E&F. Neither pair is reserved but they are blocked as bassinets.

The facing pair seats that would give you both easy aisle access are:

Lower deck: 14 A&B, 14 J&K, 20 A&B and 20 J&K These seats all show as available.

Upper deck: 62 A&B, 64 A&B and 64 J&K. (62K is already reserved.)

Row 62 is not usually made available for purchase by non status passengers. Row 64 is on some flights. If stairs are not an issue, 64 J&K, closely followed by 64 A&B are very nice seats, but they cost more to reserve than the nice, but not quite as nice seats, on the lower deck.
