OP here.
When I logged on this morning - the entire plane has apparently been switched to a different aircraft. Our "j" seats are no longer middle seats but aisle seats instead. the Original aircraft was 3/3/3 seats. Now it is 2/5/2.
So for now we will stay put and I do believe that someone will switch so that one of us can sit with our son.
For now - it seems the crisis has been averted!
