But if just 4 hour connection in general, I used to do that all the time when connecting UAX to an international flight. I remember when I had to choose between UAX flights with 1.5 hours layover or the earlier one with 6 hours layover to an international flight, I always picked the one with 6 hours layover.
Yes, there is no problem. I often o/n in IAH rather than worring about missing my connection. Sometimes I have to call to have them force it, but its allowed.
