I am not sure exactly what you mean by the 4 hours connection rule. I have booked >4 hour connections before, but that was primarily between UA and other *A international connections, so perhaps that is the difference.
Do you mean pure UA metal, domestic flight? Or do you mean an award ticket and not a purchase?
