Do most people ask when checking in for an upgrade or should it be expected the agent gives you the upgrade without asking? I realize with certain properties it might be the former, but I was expecting the later would be the normal case.
So far "Son, I am disappoint" with the platinum upgrade amenity.
It varies property to property and sometimes agent to agent! If it is not mentioned ask, there is no harm im asking. If they say they are full or nothing available it can be worth checking spg.com and pushing it further if you feel you are being fed a line, but remember it is what is available at checkin technically so if spg.com shows a suite it might be it is not ready yet, maybe a late checkout etc!
Obviously you shouldnt have to ask but it seems it does not always work like that!
