Quoting from the Feb2001 edition of the Aeroplan handbook:

"Mileage accumulation on LH is 100% of actual miles flown on NAtlantic flights in all classes. Accumulation on non-NAmerican flights in economy class is 50% of actual miles flown (500-mile minumum)."

Plus Class of Service bonuses of 50% for First and 25% for Business.

Same information on the current web site:

https://www.aeroplan.com/en/collect/air_lufthansa.jsp

So really no recourse since this has been in effect and clearly set out in the guide for almost two years, if not longer. Not even sure if having started the journey in NAmerica would have meant the LHR-FRA-JNB segment would have qualified for 100%.

BlondeBomber has had some experiences flying LH to that part of the world, so would know further details. Though I believe now he puts such LH trips into his Miles&More account since they earn considerably more points than in Aeroplan.
