how often do you see a company suddenly release seats to the public, especially CX's attitude, i guess it is hardly to happen..
even as a GO member, waitlisted on a HKG/YVR flight for 7 months last year still no seats, finally my whole trip was screwed..
now, waitlisting on flights from AMS to HKG as well as from LHR to HKG, i'm guess i will be pissed off once again

What dates were your HKG/YVR flights supposed to be? I think during peak seasons it is hard to get award travel.
For LHR it is very difficult to get award seats, especially J as they are often full on that route = less need to fill cabin with award seats. You should find it easier to get the award out of AMS.
Have you thought about trying out of CDG? Now that CX are 2x daily, there might be more chance of grabbing an award seat there....
