I think it is hard to conclude anything about today's situation because so many of the posts were dated expereinces.
I've done this twice in the past few days.
On Tuesday night I saw R1 for my Wednesday afternoon flight, called, applied an RPU, and was cleared. It took about 15 minutes on hold.
On Thursday night I saw R1 for my Friday afternoon flight even though I had already been waitlisted with an RPU. It took about 10 minutes on hold.
I feel a little bit guilty for the Tuesday gambit, since I was applying a new instrument. I don't feel guilty at all for the Thursday gambit.
