I actually did (mostly because I was going to miss the flight and make the itinerary useless) but it certainly did not give me any priority and the BA lady just told me that everyone there was in my situation (i.e. the BA connecting desks at T5). After getting the BP you also need to reenter security etc.. so not easy and at no moment was i offered some help get through more quickly at any point of time. I'v heard stories of special service helping out on certain occasions but I assume its on long haul destinations.
