What would you have done?

So this is what happened on my last trip:

I had a very important breakfast meeting in London, then Lunch in Geneva, then meetings the next day in NY.

A booking LHR-GVA-LHR-JFK-LHR was very expensive whilst the LHR-GVA one way and then GVA-LHR-JFK-LHR was 100£ cheaper than the equivalent to a LHR-GVA.

So basically BA 728 goes tech whilst i am sitting in the plane on time. I call GGL line but whilst they can rebook me on BA 730 they cant issue the ticket (of course) nor can they have it issued at the gate. Given I also loose time unboarding the plane (difficult because I had a mobile ticket and typically they keep the ticket -lesson learned here). Then run, arrive at BA desks (but given I have to queue) Imiss BA 730. Now I have missed my meeting but also whilst I assume I would def. make it back to London even if the next flight is late (given I would i assume come with that plane) there is also this odd chance I dont make the last NY flight.

So I argue to have the leg cancelled but it is impossible as not showing up in GVA would lead to a no show. so I have 2 options. Flying to GVA or cancelling the ticket and buying a new one from LHR (but given its a couple of hours before take off the ticket is now 2000£ more).

Was there any other better option?
