The RA status has been very good to me over the years (automatic upgrade to suites, free minibar, free movies). Even before I was RA, I found that I never had to ask for any amenity due to me (upgrades, breakfast, internet, etc). And it's quite easy to achieve status and I find they are much easier to use points and the value of points is better. Over time, I've been elite with Hilton and Hyatt, and I'm still far happier with IC.
If I understand the program directly, one doesn't get RA status from regular PC property stays, just the Intercontinentals? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if someone is looking for a secondary program & isn't going to be staying at ICs a lot, the comparison to RA isn't totally accurate/an apples to apples comparison. BTW - I do agree that RA status is quite nice. Does the no elite bennie at PCs when on award stays also apply to RAs or is that just to regular PC award stays?
