I was Gold Status and just achieved Platinum, but still don't understand how UA awards mileage.

I flew from HNL to SFO and received 3597 PQMs, but the award mileage was 2997. So that is a 20% bonus. Does that seem right?

I have looked everywhere and can't see where I would receive a 20% mileage bonus.

Any help?
