Palawan vs. Bali for a young couple- Thoughts, opinions?
I'll be in Hong Kong with the misses in a few weeks, and we would like to take a 4-5 day jaunt somewhere tropical - we have narrowed our search to either Bali or Palawan (prob just the Puerto Princessa surrounding area as it seems a bit much to make it to El Nido for our short time). We will be returning to KUL.
We want to keep the travel as simple as possible. We would like to be able to enjoy the day we travel, and not arrive late at night. Unfortunately with only DL and BA Avios, I am a bit limited in where I can go. This leaves me with basically only where CX serves, with a potential short connection. AirAsia is notoriously expensive out of HKG, and we've seen much of Thailand already.
Outbound
Hong Kong - Bali:
Depart Wednesday either direct on CX if the award opens up, arriving at 3p. Otherwise, connect through CGK and arrive at 6p.
Hong Kong - Palawan:
Depart Wednesday HKG-MNL on an award, connecting to PPS, arriving at 1p.
Returns
Depart Sunday, PPS-KUL, departing at 5pm, arriving KUL at 1130p.
Depart Sunday, DPS-KUL, departing at 5,7 or 9pm, arriving KUL 2 hours later, respectively.
I was hoping there is someone out there who could give me some guidance...preferably someone who has been to both.
We are both young, enjoy pristine beaches, and don't necessarily need a resort. I've got mountains of SPG/Marriott, but aside from the W in Seminyak, these will be next to useless. In Bali we would like to see Ubud for a few days, and then head to some beaches and do some eco-tourism activities. It seems like the beaches in Bali do not compare to those of Palawan. I could book the W, but it seems like it will be crammed with westerners (of which I am one).
Thoughts? Is there somewhere completely different one could recommend?
Thanks!
