I concur. The gardens are very nice and even the house itself its worth seeing once.

There's also a botanic garden in the hills northwest of Chiang Mai that's somewhat interesting as a day trip.

One word of caution: If you're driving in the hills of Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai near the Myanmar border be careful, the roads are steep (~10-15 pitch at times) and very windy with numerous steep hairpin curves. For me this is a joyride, for others it's quite nerve wracking.
