There is no requirement per-se to have a middle name, or to use one if you do have one. The requirement is that when you have PreCheck through both airline invite and GE then the names must match between the entry in GOES and your FF account. For example, if your GE card gives your name as JOHN MICHAEL BLOGS while your Aadvantage account is in the name of JOHN BLOGS then PreCheck will fail because the names don't match.
