Regarding maps, Google Earth works fine on IOS 6 and looks excellent on an iPhone 5.

Regarding Youtube, check out Jasmine at the App store. It's seems to be the best Youtube client you can get on IOS. ^
Settings > General > Reset All Settings

It wont erase any apps or data. You'll need to reset a few parameters, like keyclicks and rings tones, but the drain issue should subside.
