if you're a grappa aficionado as i am, try and get your hands on a bottle of grappa di vin santo. and if you like pear, i find the swiss ones to be better than german or french. some of the small producers make amazing eau de vie.
I suspect that you are right about the gin - and it's all 47% Bombay Sapphire. as to the Eau de Vie - I get them all from Alsace which is where the fruit is grown.
Petits producteurs in any country are the best it is true - I am amazed at your findings - I take it that these are dry rather than sweet liqueurs?
