Spent 3 nights with the wife at the Sonoma Lodge about two months ago and we thoroughly enjoyed Sonoma and the Renaissance property.
We were upgraded to the cottage suite, which was nice, but the main hotel building is also quite nice - especially the downstairs lobby area. We ate breakfast at Basque Boulangerie every morning (definitely within biking distance), and had dinner on the property one night at Carneros - which was excellent!
Everyone was super friendly, it's extremely close to downtown Sonoma (definitly within biking distance), and very close to several excellent Wineries/Vineyards.
It's my understanding that Sonoma is smaller, a bit more low-key, and a lot less "snobby" than Napa.
+1 for the Lodge!
