Deciphering "new" AA Fare Bases
There was a really helpful thread many years back, and subsequent posting on the Wiki page, about how to decipher your particular fare basis. Unfortunately, AA changed (standardized) the naming convention a few years ago, and while some of it is clearly still applicable, it's not all clear.
Is there anyone out there who could shed some light on how to interpret a fare basis such as:
QA14EQP1 or VA07ERD1
Clearly the first letter is the fare code, and the first numbers are the days of advance purchase required (14 days for the first example, 7 days for the second).
I believe the number at the end refers to what days of the week, if any, the fares aren't valid. At least I have been able to figure out that a 1 means a Monday-Saturday validity, but a 5 doesn't seem to preclude travel on a Thursday within the fare rules.
I'm specifically interested in what the second grouping of letters means, as that is what seems to change the most.
The "E" in the 5th position seems pretty constant, but I have seen an "O" in there as well. No idea what these mean, though.
Anyone able to shed some light on this?
Cheers,
Cameron
