I have NEVER seen an air vent in a 77W or new generation 77L. EK, SQ, CX don't have them & they don't take the cheap way out of anything. I think Boeing stopped putting them in at some point. The 787 has a new kind of vent. The CO 777's are newer then the UA 777's. I have a feeling that's all there is to that
