Back in the days when you could still carry liquids on board I took what I thought was quite a nice bottle of whisky (a whisky that I drank at home not infrequently) to the in-laws as a gift. When they opened it I found it a little unpleasant.
I hypothesized that the low cabin pressure allowed the whisky to enter the cork somewhat & pick up a nasty flavour. Although I didn't really believe it myself, they were polite enough to go along with my 'theory'.
