You cannot compare the two airlines in such way as they have different configurations for the A330 on different routes.
What CX has done on the regional fleet for the new J class makes sense.
Agree! Most of the planned missions for this seat are around or within 3 hours, e.g. China, Taiwan, Southeast Asia (ex Indonesia), and Korea. You don't need a flat seat for these routes.
For high yield locations such as Tokyo, Seoul and Singapore, they get long-haul aircrafts all the time.
For India/Middle East/Australia, you are guaranteed to get the top-notch flat J seats once retrofit are all done.
You cannot compare this product with SQ's angle flat J on A333/B773. SQ's definition of Regional is much longer. Their most important regional missions are mostly 4-7 hours (China/HK, Japan, India/Middle East, Australia). See their aircraft deployment on most Southeast Asian routes, mostly old recliner seat on 772.
This CX regional J makes most sense in any business case.
