You should call and ask the agent about that..they should be able to change the return without affecting the outbound flight, but sometimes the fare rules require essentially cancelling the ticket and re-ticketing the whole thing it at the current fare plus the change fee. But even with having to do that I am pretty sure they'll be able to leave your outbound segment alone...but I'm not 100% sure.
