POUGs and multi-leg flights

Is there a consensus on whether a flight being part of a multi-leg booking makes a difference to the likelihood of being offered a proactive upgrade after booking?

eg if I book ET from LHR-MAD-TFS - first leg BA, second IB - does that diminish the chance of being offered a cheap upgrade to CE on the LHR-MAD leg?

Thoughts and experiences appreciated - thanks!
