How about IB taking over both BCN and MAD flights? Schedulewise that would be perfect as IB could do both rotations with one crew and plane with schedules fitting into AY's Asia flights (afternoon turn in HEL). Servicewise IB's service is almost as bad/good as AY's nowadays and I'm sure the IB can do it cheaper than AY. As a bonus, flights would still be operated with well known global carrier instead of some third class ad-hoc chater airline which most passengers have never heard of.
My thoughts exactly. AY is lucky to have a OW partner in Spain. Therefore, one would assume that it would be smarter and more cost effective for AY to sign an agreement with IB, let them operate the routes as part of their network and commit to buying eg. 90% of the seats for the AY codeshare.
This would have all the benefits you mention plus perhaps even the added benefit that IB might attract Finnish customers for their South and Central American routes.
