best *A for family, and perhaps different for me?
I am predominantly a OW flyer, and am EXP on AA. As a family, the occasional flights on *A we used to do were credited to BD, which was great since we could pool miles, and as everyone knows, the earn/burn rates were fantastic. Status was not so important to us then, since we could usefully use our miles for great redemptions. Those days have sadly ended, and we need to think of *A plans for myself, and my wife/daughter, and it may be that we have different needs. Being based in PEK now means that OW doesn't fulfil all our travel needs, and I'm really not sure which plans to pursue.
I have used my AA status to match to TK for 2 years of *G, so will probably credit to them if for no other reason than for baggage allowance on family trips etc. However, my wife/daughter will never achieve status on *A. For their flying, useful accumulation of miles for some redemptions will be the primary goal. If there is a FFP in *A that allows a family membership, that might be ideal, but I can't think of one.
(1) What is your home airport? PEK
(2) What types of fares do you usually buy? economy.
(3) How many miles do you usually fly each year? Probably 10k/year on *A for me, perhaps 5-10k/year for each of my wife/daughter. If the AA programme goes belly up, I will probably switch to *A for all my flying (80-110k/year currently).
(4) Do you have any kind of status at present? What is it? I am AA EXP, and matched to TK *G. My wife is AA Gold, but will expire next march.
(5) What is most important to you in a FFP? Good redemptions for *A are probably most important, but I think our earn rates are so low, may find it difficult to achieve value. We have PP, and most *A lounges are accessible that way, and I have *G for now. The baggage allowance might be useful on family trips.
6) Which routes do you fly most often? On *A: PEK-XXX on CA.
(7) Preferred Airlines (OZ, LH, SQ)? CA
(8) Do you travel for work or pleasure? Work for me, pleasure for family.
thanks very much,
