nope i called about a month or so later and just had a nice chat with the lady about possible upgrade options. i got a good price on the return fare, much cheaper than originally quoted a week or so after booking, and she just offered to waive the £100 charge for both of us. i thought about routing back to LCY which is best, but that would've cost £100 per ticket. i guess i just got lucky on this occasion!
