Having originally been in WT with an O class ticket travelling from LGW to MRU, I'm now in CW on the outbound leg after a cash upgrade to WT+ (T class) followed by an Avios upgrade. Total damage for upgrades about 360 pounds and 15k Avios - not all too bad given that my original O class ticket was only about 325 pounds. I couldn't get them to waive the 100 pound change fee though! Assuming a value of 1p per Avios, total cost of the outbound CW is then about £835. In comparison, a straight CW award redemption would cost 60k Avios and £353 in taxes and fees, equivalent to about £953. A cash CW outbound leg is currently priced at £1698.
Really looking forward to my first CW experience - now need to find out what seat I should aim for
(and indeed whether I should fork out another £60 to choose a seat now!)
