In general, the less automated the system, the greater the chance of getting some flexibility. Many Asian airlines still use manual systems for Irrops as does, for example, Alitalia in Europe. As a result, you don't get the 'computer says no' phenomenon and things can sometimes be easier if you need some complex resolution to problems (but can also be slower if you need some more straightforward resolution).
