I did same redemption with delta miles and got $1500 amex GC, the, during thanks giving had to spend 1600$ for 2 economy tickets, which I would have gotten with half of the delta miles used to get Amex GCs... Lesson learned.. never use GC with miles.

In terms of 'things' I bought, there was a time a couple of years back when you can redeem delta miles for amex gift cards and the rate was reasonably attractive for elite members. I transferred a bunch of MR points to Delta (at 50% or 75% bonus, can't remember) and redeemed - if I remembered correctly - for like 6 or 7 Amex $100 gift cards at the rate of 12000 per card. Thought it was pretty good use for Delta miles at the time.
Maybe not the best use of the miles, but it was a good value at the time.
