Your friend has done you a nice favor - do you want to even take a chance of him or her possibly losing their pass privileges?

Your friend works hard and their pass privileges are an extension of their pay. But the pass program has some strict rules, and one of the basic "common sense" ones is to not even look like you're trying to take advantage of the pass travel program. Even just "asking" or "trying" to claim mileage might make another employee angry enough to report your friend,

We understand you being enthusiastic about your upcoming trip, But as stated above, pass travel rule #1 is to keep a low profile (and to use common sense). I hope your trip is safe and enjoyable.
