Thing is, therein lies the rub; the YQ componant is not part of the base fare but a YQ surcharge; a refund of fare difference only would be a difference between the points required for travel on AA vs a difference between the points required for travel on BA which would come to zero

It is a recalculation of taxes and charges which would be needed for a refund of the YQ

I don't see , with a involuntary reroute, where a recalculation would take place ( aand obviously normally shouldn't ) but do think that writing a polite letter to AA explaining the situation will likely lead to a refund
