"Reaccomodated" from BA to AA on award flight, should I get refund on surcharge

Not a regular to AA forums so sorry if this has been asked and answered. Tried search function to no avail.

My original itinerary for an award redemption was BCN to LHR (BA), LHR to JFK (BA), JFK to SFO (AA) switched to BCN to MIA (AA), MIA to SFO (AA). Agent said I was "reaccomodated" because of a change in one of my BA flights and because they had to force me onto a full AA flight I am not entitled to a refund of fuel surcharges.

So I want to know if this is accurate or if I should call back to get a refund of fuel surcharges. Thanks.
