It's good that you get points but what about night and stay credits if they matter to you? Instead of taking the inferior hotel, can you book something better yourself at a reasonable rate? Do you have a real live travel agent who could help to find an alternative?
I have found an alternate hotel on my own, it's a bit farther away but the rate is also better. Given the circumstances it's not likely I'll be looking to achieve status with SPG
so the stay and night credits are not important to me.
