Query whether you really save all that much money after paying for the LHR-MAD (no cheap one ways) and the risk of getting it wrong, even if you build in some extra hours in MAD (although the lounge is fine for a silver card holder).
I am getting an Avios ticket to MAD (lots of availability at the mo). Even after £27, I save £400 compared to the WT+ fare from LHR. If I don't do this, alas, I can only afford to fly WT - which is not nice for 11h.

I thought about checking a bag at LHR, and asking them to check it for the two PNRs (LHR-MAD-LHR-JNB), have done this before on LH without trouble... Anyone with experience of this?
