How do I calculate how many miles the YVR segment would add? Also, how would i officially book an itinerary like YYZ-YVR-EWR. I can't imagine AC would volunteer to fly me across the country for little to no extra charge... I would assume they would try to avoid putting me on such a flight segment if I'm trying to get to LGA.
you can get an close estimate by using gcmap.com, since you are qualifying by segment, it's the same thing doing YTZ-YUL-LGA versus YYZ-YVR-EWR. For next year, if you can make it to 35 segments, you'll get access to AC's Maple leaf lounge, and have priority boarding, and 3 pieces of checked baggage, upgrade credits valid for Tango Plus in North America on AC, but only Star Alliance Silver benefits flying other airlines (although you can select lounge access as part of a selection, not sure what you would have to give up). So that's an option you can consider if you have trouble making to 50 segments.
