Sneaking into Exec Lounges - common practice?

Just returned from a trip to Austin and stayed at the Hilton Austin (downtown). The EL is right outside the bank of elevators. Our room was right around the corner, so I'd run to the EL for hot water to make tea to bring back to the room. On more than one occasion (more than several actually) I noticed people seemingly waiting on the elevators but when the door to the EL would open they'd head on in.

It didn't dawn on me at first what they were doing but eventually I caught on. They must have not had access and were pretending to wait for the elevators and would grab the door and then walk right in. I'm not the EL police or anything, I just thought it was really cheeky.

I haven't noticed this before at other Hilton's but I've never been staying right around the corner so I probably used the EL less on those trips.

Does this happen often?
