What happened is that Delta considered a DL W flight operated by AF just like an AF W flight... which is incorrect. A DL W flight is actually equivalent to an AF A flight which is not upgradable.

Star Alliance also allows to upgrade flights with miles from other programs but they make it clear that code shares are excluded from the upgrade program to avoid such cases.

So, instead of complaining, all those that managed to upgrade a DL W fare operated by AF in the past should considered themselves lucky as you were not entitled to it by the rules.
We are complaining because one skymiles benefit has been rescinded without notice, even as people had already purchased W fare (AF or DL, does not matter) with the goal to upgrade. No solution has been offered for pax in this situation.
We are also complaining because because AF has also drastically cut off award availability to DL pax. This is another skymiles benefit that is gone, adding to the devaluation of the skymiles program.

All in all, AF/DL/KL are supposed to work together in this TATL joint venture. Does not seem like it's working to me...
