Interesting point, Shareholder. I just got back from shopping at my local Safeway store. This store used to support the Calgary SPCA chapter by allowing patrons to round up their purchase to the nearest dollar and giving the change to SPCA. The program has now changed to AC's Dreams Take Flight. I asked the cashier about the switch and was told that a committee of store employees decides annually which charity to support. As committee members’ change, so do the charities this store supports.
The news article was rather brief and one sided, so I agree with Shareholder that this is not an "AC screwed up again" situation.
One final point to consider, the article did not mention anything about the volume of toys distributed in previous years. This could be a "drip, drip, flood" situation.

Edited for spelling.
