This is not about people leaving things in the bag intentionally. It's about picking out everything that people might have forgotten about. Extremely easy things to do for those of us who do not pack/unpack bags except for the washing.
Still? As a matter of course I like to keep my liquid (however small) away from my clothes/laptop/phone/wallet in case they leak. Works fine for me.
Have I missed the point, we are talking about hand luggage arn't we? It's not that hard really.
Also, surely the point is that how can the scanner be sure how much liquid is in your bag, a small amount might just show as some liquid and thats why they need to check that none exist.
