What are my chances of being able to upgrade with either Avios or ££?
I wouldnt count on an upgrade for either. LHR-HKG is a premium heavy route with a lot of status flyers. Whilst they rarely upgrade you on either airline, i have noticed CX treat their own status members very well, but completely ignore anyone from other OW schemes (i stuck with BA when i moved here but many of my colleagues are MPC).

I honestly cant tell the difference between the seats. It would for me come down to whether i value slightly better service or slightly better IFE. CX is also more expensive, but youve never done it before so it might be worth a try.
