Posting it here since the New York destination forum doesn't find much activity.

I'm arriving on DL926 from ATL to EWR scheduled to arrive at 5:30 PM and leaving from JFK to FCO departing at scheduled 9:50 PM.

So I've a time of 4hr 20min for the connection. I'll have luggage with me so public transport is not feasible. So my only options are a shuttle bus or a cab/ limo like Carmel or Dial7. So I'll probably use Carmel.

Now the DL926 has average delay of 26 min, standard deviation of 30 as per flightstats. So lets say I arrive on time at 5:30, retrieve luggage and get to cab at 6:00, 2 hour drive if traffic is bad at the Friday evening peak hour. Reach at 8:00 or later to JFK at the earliest.

Do you think this is feasible? I had to book this EWR/JFK because of award availability and I wanted to keep it all in one itinerary to be protected in case of IROPS. The revenue ticket from ATL to JFK is just $130, so its basically just change, but if I do that I'll not be protected in case of IRROPS.

What do you guys suggest? Thanks!
