I'm astounded at the difficulties you had in getting an illegal connection corrected. Whether or not you selected the flights individually, they have an obligation to correct a ticket that has an illegal connection once they issue those flights on a single ticket. I suspect part of the issue was calling over the weekend. I've found the caliber of agents tends to drop off over the weekend.
