Long story short +1 to the above. I would have been dancing in the streets. There is no way I would go through the heartache and stress for 40$. Life is just way too short and two days in Istanbul sounds shear bliss to me.
that would suite you just fine, but you, like a few others, apparently did not read what the OP wrote. He didn't have the luxury of staying in IST a few extra days. He needed to get back home. Not everyone can burn a few extra days at the expense of missing work or, if you don't even have work or family to get back to. Shame on UA for not doing the right thing.
