56 min for domestic-to-domestic is certainly "legal"; IMHO in most cases it does not leave enough margin for the unforeseen

that said, "enough margin" is subjective ... I would consider time of day, my schedule constraints, alternative routings in case of IROPS, etc
The concept of minimum connect time is used by hundreds of airlines at thousands of airports worldwide. MCT may not routinely be sufficient for the mobility impaired, or those who think they need to grab lunch between flights, but it's pretty practical as a guide - and, again, the OP has 21 minutes above MCT.
