The VIP thing is not cheeky, rather it's the way that "hispanohablantes" - Spanish speakers - generally call them. Iberia calls their lounges "Sala VIP" and the same applies throughout Latin America, right down to signage that equates "Airline Lounges" with "Salas VIP".
That said, most South American lounges are terrible. I can't actually think of even one that is good.
I would put the AA lounge in GRU on a parallel to the Servisair lounge in EDI interms of facilities, it's a lot larger and their English is better*, but apart from that almost the same.
